In old times, the simplest way to fetch hey, firewood, and other supplies in the high mountains was by horse and sled during winter.
Over frozen ground, across marshes, heather, and ice-covered lakes, the horses carried heavy loads.
These trips could be quite challenging in various weather conditions and required local knowledge and cooperation with other mountain folk. That’s why several farmers from the same neighborhood often traveled together.
It was cold and tough, but they also experienced some of the most amazing things the Norwegian mountains have to offer!
The horses with their snowshoes moved calmly over ice-covered lakes, and when the sun shone, there was no better place to be.
Now we can offer you a unique journey back in time!
The horses, the mountains, the sled, and the experience are exactly the same as 100 years ago.
We have a day trip to the Hollo mountain farm, which is 7 kilometers from the plowed road at 1200 meters above sea level.
The trip follows the old trails, and Olav Andres joins as the tour guide. You will hear stories about events and people who lived in the mountains here.
Lunch take place in the Stølsbue, which is equipped for overnight stays with power and wather.
